Hey, I’m Victoria, the storyteller behind Stories by Victoria, and if there’s one thing I absolutely love about my job, it’s capturing your beautiful love story that unfold in Upstate New York. The Catskills have become one of my favorite destinations for wedding photography, and I’ve seen some truly magical venues that I can’t wait to share with you!
There’s something about the Catskills that makes every wedding feel like a romantic escape. Maybe it’s the stunning views, the crisp mountain air, or the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern amenities. Whatever it is, this area has become a haven for couples who want something unique, intimate, and totally unforgettable. So, if you’re dreaming of a Catskills wedding, in an affordable Catskills wedding venues, let me give you an inside look at some of the most remarkable venues around as one of the Catskills wedding photographer.
Before we dive into the venues, let’s talk about why so many couples are flocking to the Catskills. First, it’s because of the landscape. You’ll find dense forests, serene lakes, mountain views that go on forever, and tons of open space—perfect for couples who want to feel completely immersed in nature. The Catskills has cozy, small-town feel while still offering sophisticated, on-trend wedding venues that understand what today’s couples are looking for. Plus, it’s an easy weekend getaway from NYC, making it accessible for you and your guests.
Whether you’re looking for a big lodge where everyone can gather or a quiet cabin for an intimate ceremony, the Catskills have something for everyone.
Alright, now let’s get into some venues! Each of these places brings its own vibe and unique charm, and as a Catskills wedding photographer, I love capturing weddings at each one.
Imagine your wedding weekend tucked away on a private estate surrounded by lakes, mountains, and open skies. Cedar Lakes Estate in Port Jervis is all about luxury, but with a warm, rustic twist. You can get married at the lakeside, celebrate under a pavilion, or even plan a dinner in a beautiful barn that looks like something out of a storybook. The estate can host both big gatherings and smaller, more intimate weddings, and they even offer lodging on-site for your guests.
From my perspective as your photographer, Cedar Lakes Estate is a dream. The golden-hour light reflecting off the lake and the mountain views create the kind of natural beauty that makes photos pop without much effort. Plus, the mix of wood, greenery, and water is a backdrop that truly shines in your photos.
If you want a venue that’s a little offbeat and has a creative flair, The Roxbury Barn and Estate in Roxbury is such a gem. This venue is known for its iconic “Wedding in the Woods” setting, which is exactly as magical as it sounds. Imagine you and your partner exchanging vows in the middle of a forest surrounded by tall pines—it’s like stepping into a fairytale.
What makes Roxbury Barn stand out is its eclectic mix of rustic and modern. They’ve got a gorgeous barn for receptions, but it’s paired with artistic touches and beautiful lighting setups that make the space feel warm and inviting.
If you’re dreaming of a Catskills wedding with a cozy, homey vibe, The Arnold House in Livingston Manor might be the perfect spot. This venue has a relaxed, intimate atmosphere that feels like a family reunion (with a lot more style!). It’s a charming inn surrounded by forest and rolling fields, giving it that secluded feel that’s perfect for a wedding retreat.
The Arnold House offers several unique spaces for ceremonies and receptions, including a greenhouse, a beautiful lawn, and a barn. The setting is beautiful for photos, and the relaxed feel makes for great, natural-looking shots. In this Catskills wedding venue I find that couples and guests are so at ease here, which comes through in the photos. It’s like everyone’s just enjoying a weekend in the countryside, which is exactly what you want!
Another favorite of mine is Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY. This place is truly surrounded by nature and has a laid-back vibe that appeals to couples looking to fully embrace the Catskills’ wild, natural beauty. Full Moon offers tons of indoor and outdoor options, from outdoor tented spaces to cozy indoor lodge areas.
What I love about photographing at Full Moon is how versatile it is. The views in the mountain are a showstopper, especially when we catch them during golden hour. They even have a brook running through the property, which makes for some dreamy, unique photo spots. Full Moon is ideal for those looking to have a true mountain wedding experience without compromising on comfort.
The DeBruce, located in the Sullivan Catskills, combines rustic elegance with a touch of luxury, making it perfect for you who want a blend of countryside charm and sophistication. The venue itself is perched on a hill, providing incredible views of the mountains and nearby river. The DeBruce specializes in culinary experiences, so if food is a big part of your wedding vision, you can make them part of your wedding.
And, Photographically speaking, The DeBruce is a playground. There’s this area that’s perfect for your first-look photos, as well as cozy nooks in the inn that create an intimate, romantic setting. The way they set up the ceremony space to overlook the mountains makes every photo look epic!
When you’re in the part of picking the Catskills venue, remember these few things to keep in mind to make sure your day flows smoothly.
Many of the Catskills wedding venues offer on-site lodging or are close to charming inns and B&Bs. Look for a venue where your guests can stay nearby if you’re planning a weekend wedding so everyone can make the most of the Catskills experience.
The Catskills are gorgeous year-round, but the weather can be unpredictable, especially in fall or winter. Many venues have indoor spaces or tents as a backup plan, so keep that in mind when booking.
Some venues require you to work with specific vendors, so it’s important to know whether you can bring in your favorite florist, DJ, or caterer. Most of the venues I mentioned have a list of trusted vendors, but many also let you bring in your own team to make your self more comfortable.
It’s no surprise, this is essential! Choosing a venue with diverse settings means you’ll get a range of photo opportunities without leaving the property. You should look for spots with varied backdrops like lakes, forests, or mountain views. But if you can’t decide what to choose, I’m here.
One of the best things about a Catskills wedding is the chance to turn it into a whole weekend experience. Many couples plan fun activities like hiking, bonfires, or brunches to enjoy with their guests. You can, consider hosting a welcome dinner or day-after brunch.
Catskills wedding photographer like me will be there to capture not only the main event but all those in-between moments that make the weekend special. The Catskills is such a unique place for a wedding, and trust me, the photos will be nothing short of breathtaking!
So, whether you’re drawn to the rustic, woodsy charm or the luxury of a mountain estate, the Catskills has the perfect wedding venues to match your vision.
